We're All Wounded and Healed by Life
Scars are part of the price We pay for being alive Some I wear on my sleeve And some I simply hide For others I’ll tell stories That may or not be true But I don’t want to keep Any wounds from you I’ll show you all my hurts and cuts Share the lessons learned I’ll take you beneath the surface For the heartbreaks and the burns For the joys and bliss and lacerations Become part of life’s investigation As the holes in the sky are magnificent stars Let my light shine forever through my scars There’s no way to get through living Without taking a hit But to keep moving forward Is how you deal with it When you fall down seven times You get up eight Even if your legs are wobbly Can’t stand up straight I’ll tell you ‘bout my broken bones The weird ways that they healed And when I went for all 12 rounds The character it revealed Gaps in the night, where the moon’s sweet light gets in Restoration and rejuvenation always start within As the holes in the sky are magnificent stars Let my light shine forever through my scars Don’t ever let me lose the feeling The pain, the recovery The rehab and the teachings Make me better than before Make me better than before The question’s probably not if but when And yes, we’ll probably all get hurt again For what we see as light, may no longer be a star So let what light is left shine right through my scars It’s a sign of life A sign I’m here My battles with darkness My battles with fear From loves lost From love’s spars Part of me Will always be My scars On this journey of life and love I am healed And I am guided by scars
